Our Commitment

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 October 2026  ·  Applies to www.brokenwingsinitiative.org

This is a placeholder policy. It outlines how Broken Wings Initiative (BWI) intends to handle personal information. It has not yet been reviewed by legal counsel and must be reviewed and completed before launch.

1. Who We Are

Broken Wings Initiative is a Private Voluntary Organization registered in Zimbabwe (PVO 42/2021), headquartered at 48 Samora Machel Avenue, Suite 402, Harare. For questions about this policy contact us at info@brokenwingsinitiative.org.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the information you choose to give us:

  • Enquiries and volunteer applications — your name, email address, optional phone number, and the content of your message.
  • Newsletter subscriptions — your email address only.
  • Donation records — transaction references and amounts where required for accounting and statutory reporting.
  • Technical data — standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited, used for security and aggregate traffic analysis.

We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To respond to your enquiry or volunteer application.
  • To send you the termly newsletter you requested. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • To administer, receipt and account for donations.
  • To meet our obligations as a registered charity and PVO.
  • To detect and prevent fraud or abuse of our donation platform.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We never share beneficiary or child data for marketing purposes under any circumstances.

4. Cookies

This site uses essential cookies required for the site to function, and can optionally use analytics cookies to understand which content is most useful to visitors. Your choice is captured through a consent banner and stored in your browser's local storage, so you are not asked again on subsequent visits. You can clear your stored preference at any time through your browser settings.

5. Child Safeguarding

BWI operates a zero-tolerance policy on child abuse and exploitation. We follow strict ethical photography protocols and verified informed consent for all field documentation. Names and images of individual children are never published without explicit, documented guardian consent, and children are never presented in a way that would identify them as being in need.

6. Data Retention

Enquiry and volunteer records are retained for 24 months. Financial and donation records are retained for seven years to meet statutory audit requirements. Newsletter subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe.

7. Your Rights

You may at any time request to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct any inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your information, where we are not legally required to retain it.
  • Withdraw consent for newsletter communications at any time.

Zimbabwe's Personal Data Protection Act grants these rights. Requests are handled within 30 days.

8. Security

This site is served exclusively over HTTPS. Administrative access is restricted and all activity is logged. No system is perfectly secure, but we apply controls proportionate to the sensitivity of the data held.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as our programmes or legal obligations evolve. Material changes will be announced on this page with a revised "last updated" date.
